About Us
Our Mission
The mission of the Fredericktown Revitalization Initiative, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is the thoughtful preservation of the architectural and cultural heritage of main street Fredericktown in balance with sustainable economic development to meet the needs of the Fredericktown community.
By using the Main Street Four Point Approach of design, organization, promotion, and economic restructuring in an inclusive, community-based process we will revitalize Fredericktown’s historic downtown district resulting in a greatly improved experience for people living, visiting, or doing business in downtown Fredericktown.
Our Vision
Our vision of Fredericktown is one of a vibrant community which is rooted in a meaningful connection to our local history, including customs and traditions which persist today. It is a vision in which the cultural and architectural history is not just protected, but understood as an inspiration that informs and enriches our everyday life.
A community is nurtured and deepened by the intimacy of face-to-face relationships. It is on the sidewalks of our town square, in our shops, restaurants, schools, parks and even our front porches that such relationships develop. These places, like the rich organic soil of a garden, are the medium from which we grow.
Thus our vision is, ultimately, one of place in which human needs are met. This is where we help one another and ourselves, where we are directly empowered to manage and control our lives. The real, day-to-day needs of our community as well as the resources found within it, are utilized effectively and cooperatively by businesses, organizations, individuals and local government for the benefit of the entire community.
In such a town the desire for the public good forms the foundation of civic responsibility as well as the development of economic relationships which transcend the mere exchange of products and services.
It might even be said that the public good requires a moral economy in which economic activity is not only a way to provide people with the material means of life, but also as a way of creating affective ties between people and their community.
Last but not least, our vision is one of celebration! Our town is a place of lived cultural experience with live music, events and a variety of visual art as well as crafts. Our town is one in which residents and visitors are happy to leave behind their cars as they walk from shop to shop, enjoying music on the square or an ice cream cone in the garden park.
